Praise the King

main image
Psalm 47:6-9 says:

"Sing praises to God, sing praises!
     Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth;
     sing praises with a psalm!
God reigns over the nations;
     God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
     as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
     he is highly exalted!"

As we embark on this new series through the Sermon on the Mount, we learned last week how Jesus instructs us that He is the King, and that his Kingship should be an ever-present reminder of us to obey his Word.

The King on the throne deserves our obedience, and in Psalm 47, He has clear instruction for us as his subjects...and for all the peoples of the world.  He calls us to sing praises to the King!

Are you ready to obey the King this Sunday?  Are you ready to sing praises to the God who sits on his throne in holiness?  Are you ready to sing praises to the God who is highly exalted?  Is He highly exalted in your thinking? Is He highly exalted in your priorities? Will He be highly exalted in your life when you choose your bedtime on Saturday or set your alarm for Sunday?  Will he be highly exalted in your life when you get up on Sunday and the kids are tough to get out the door on time? Will He be highly exalted in your life when you're tempted to be distracted by conversation rather than being in your seat ready to praise the Lord at the beginning of the service?

Is Jesus the King in your reality?  He's the King in the true reality, and all too often, my reality doesn't match his, and I must reorient myself to the truth.  One of the best ways to do that week in and week out is to come and sing praises to the King on the Throne and soak in the truths that we sing and the preached Words of the King.  He promises to meet us when we gather.

Come with me! Let's exalt the King in song this Sunday! Here are the songs and Scripture that will make up our Sunday service this week:

Call to worship from Psalm 47
Crown Him with Many Crowns
Be Enthroned
Before the Throne of God Above
Living Hope
Sermon from Matthew 5
Communion
His Mercy Is More

Here's a Spotify Playlist of these songs so you can familiarize yourself with them and sing them without distraction on Sunday.
