Ed Clowney wrote, “Our trials keep us trusting. They burn away our self-confidence and drive us to our savior.” Which trial(s) burned away your self -confidence? How have they driven you to Jesus?
Each of us has unique trials, but we also share common trials. What common trials do you think we share in this group? According to our text, what’s God’s perspective of these trials? What specific grace can we find and thank Him for in these trials, together?
How does understanding that we live in a privileged time, when God has revealed His Messiah, encourage you in this time and in the places of your daily life?*

Did the description of Christians as “elect exiles” comfort you, discomfort you, or both? How? In what ways did Jesus become an elect exile?*
What difference does it make to you that not only has Jesus embraced being a “Chosen-Outsider,” but that each of us are also a part of the “Selected-Rejected,” together?
The sermon contained this quote from Juan Sanchez: “In these hardening times, some of us will be tempted to compromise what we believe to “fit in” or to avoid suffering, while others of will be tempted to bemoan all that is wrong with our world and long nostalgically for a better time, long forgotten (and that likely never existed).”Are you more prone to the temptation of assimilating as a “compromiser” or withdrawing as a “bemoaner”? How might you need to be challenged by those in our group?*
