The Bible has many heroes within its pages, heroes of faith. However, the TRUE hero of the Bible is Jesus. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead. Because of that through FAITH in Jesus we are saved from our sins.

STORY: The National Baseball Hall of Fame has plaques for 340 players, coaches, and others who made a special impact on the game of baseball. The museum in Cooperstown, New York, has pictures, artifacts, and exhibits to tell the stories of each Hall of Fame member. These men and women will be remembered and celebrated by baseball fans forever. When you come to chapter 11 of the Book of Hebrews, it feels like walking through the Hall of Fame of Bible people. We are reminded of the faith shown by people like Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and King David. These individuals should be remembered and celebrated because they all had faith in God’s plan EVEN BEFORE they saw Jesus. Of course, God’s plan led to Jesus the greatest hero in the Bible. He is greater than Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and David! Jesus trusted in God—even when it meant He would die on the cross. While there are many people who do great things for God, the writer of Hebrews wants us to remember that Jesus is greater because He is God!
QUESTION: What was the thing that was special about all of these people mentioned in Hebrews?
ANSWER: Their Faith! It wasn’t their strength, leadership, or knowledge of the law, it was their faith.
QUESTION: What is faith?
ANSWER: Faith is a big concept with lots of ways to explain it, but you can find one answer in Hebrews 11:1 (vs. 11 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” )
This verse says faith is a confidence in hopes, and firm belief in something despite not being able to see or touch it. That means we could have faith in a lot of things like school, friends, work and money. However, those things and anything else do not promise to never let you down. Jesus our Savior will never let us down.
QUESTION: Is it always easy to have faith in God?
ANSWER: No, it will not always be easy to have faith in God. There was a man who told Jesus in Mark 9:24 “I believe; help my unbelief!”
