Let the Word Dwell in You Richly

Colossians 3:16-17 says:

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

As we continue our series on the Scriptures from Psalm 119, I was thinking of this passage from Colossians this week.  We are called to allow the Word of Christ, the Gospel, the Truth to dwell in us richly.  We are called to allow it to saturate our thinking and our priorities.  We are called to meditate on the Word, to delight in the Word, to discuss the Word, to memorize the Word....all of those are components that I think are wrapped up in the phrase, "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly."

And God is kind to give us the "why" right here in this verse...so that we can build up the Church and give thanks to God.  As we marinate our lives in the Word of Christ, that is to have the effect of causing us to function as His Body in the Church.  The Word will equip us to teach and admonish one another so that we might grow in holiness and joy in the Lord.  The Word will motivate us to sing with gratitude in our hearts to God.  The Word will motivate and sustain us in our pursuit of honoring God in all we do.  And the Word will foster thankfulness in our hearts, such that we do all of these things for the glory of God and in grateful response to Gospel Truth.

May we be a people in whom the Word of Christ dwells richly.  This Sunday, we'll sing songs that encourage us to trust in and be thankful for Word of God and Gospel Story it contains.

Here are songs and Scriptures that will form our services this Sunday:

-Call to Worship from Colossians 3:16-17
