The Gift of the Word
As we just completed our series on "A Generous Life", and are getting started this Sunday with our Study on Psalm 119: "Transformed", I was reminded what a gift the Word of God is to me. We are surrounded in this world with alternative "truths" which are often at odds with one another, and it can be so difficult to discern fact from fiction in our society.
Alternative facts, "Fake News", biased journalism, and political agendas all mingle with our natural rebelliousness as people, and we are pulled away from a reliance on a single, inerrant, source of Truth. And while the world tells us that truth is relative, reality is staring us right in the face from the pages of Scripture.
1 Timothy 3: 16-17 says:
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
We believe that Scripture contains all that is needed for us to live lives filled with good works that glorify God. God's Word has the corner on the market of Truth. It is the sole source of fundamental Truth for all of life. And so, only a fool would look to other, contradictory, sources for direction and understanding. The gift of God's Word is such a precious gift that we should treasure and enjoy and keep in a tight grip.
May we not be fools, but, with David, cry out to the Lord:
"Let my cry come before you, O Lord;
give me understanding according to your word!
Let my plea come before you;
deliver me according to your word.
My lips will pour forth praise,
for you teach me your statutes.
My tongue will sing of your word,
for all your commandments are right." - Psalm 119:169-172
As we come to worship on Sunday, let us lay aside anything that seeks to displace the Lord at the center of our lives, and anything that seeks to displace his Word as the source of Truth in our lives. Here are the Scriptures and Songs that will be included in our service this Sunday:
