"What A Relief!" 1 Thessalonians 3:1-13

Community Group Discussion Questions

Making disciples through the mutual ministry of redemptive relationships

Text: 1 Thessalonians 3:1-13

                                                  Sermon Title: “What a Relief!”

Date: November 3, 2019

  1. Read 2 Corinthians 11:23-29. Here, Paul is recounting his sufferings as an apostle. Why do you think includes his “anxiety for all the churches” in a passage describing deadly physical suffering? What does this tell us about his heart for the people in the churches he planted?

  1. Read 1 Thess. 3:1-5. When Paul says “we could bear it no longer,” to what is he referring? How have you experienced a similar burden in your own life?

  1. How can you tell whether your own anxious thoughts are wrong (see Matthew 6:25) or whether they are the result of godly care/concern?

  1. Read vv. 6-10. How would you describe Paul’s attitude in these verses? Describe a time in your life when similar news brought you joy.

  1. Are you ever tempted to jealousy when someone gets good news like this while you remain burdened and waiting? How could we grow as a group in celebrating one another’s good news reports?

  1. Read vv. 11-13. What does this prayer teach us about God’s character or actions? How does seeing God this way give you confidence in him as you carry a burden for others?

  1. Please share a burden that you are carrying. How can we pray for you?
