  1. Read James 2:8-9. What does James contrast favoritism with in these two verses? What implications does this contrast have?
  2. How have you seen favoritism show up in your family or other relationships?
  3. How has it impacted the “favored” one(s)?
  4. How has it impacted the “non- favored”?
  5. The gospel breaks favoritism by giving us a new Father, a new family (the church), and a new peace. Which one of these are you most needing to remember today? Explain.
  6. By the power of the gospel, what way(s) can you contribute to a church and small group culture absent of favoritism?

  1. Read Ephesians 2:11-22. Compare and contrast your family with the family this passage describes. What are the similarities? What are the differences?
  2. When it comes to your family, what are you running from? (examples: a particular person, discussion topic. past event, culture, family practice)
  1. How is “running” working for you?
  2. What does God see inside your heart when He looks at your running?
